Re: List of Supported devices
ATSC 1.0 never failed me on my Onn pro yet. But ATSC 3.0 stations do fail from time to time, quite randomly. Hopefully, SD can find some work arounds. 2.0 or 5.1 speaker settings seem to invoke cloud transcoding which results in DD 2.0 audio. We also know Onn Pro has DD/DD+ encoder enabled for anyth...

Re: List of Supported devices
When I set speaker setting to 5.1 on ONN Pro, I got DD 2.0 according to my AVR. Same as 2.0 speaker setting. Only passthrough gets me 5.1 audio but it fails too often resulting to no video and audio.
ONN Pro should be widely available starting today in stores.

Re: Subwoofer in OTA ATSC 1.0?
Subwoofer signal is passed from your AVR or soundbar which may have many different modes of sound processing. Make sure you are not using Pure or Direct mode which turns off audio processing. A properly configured AVR (with speaker size set to small) or soundbar can output subwoofer signal regardles...

Re: HDHR Android app bug
All the settings checked out fine. I'm using eARC mode and Atmos sound from streaming apps work just fine. I have volume indicators on both on screen display and LEDs on the soundbar for volume changes. So, it is only the message that is annoying. Actual volume controls have no problem at all. Also,...

Re: HDHR Android app bug
Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, my X900H does not have any firmware updates for a while now. If it is a Sony problem, I will have to live with it. However, it only shows up in HDHR app, not other stream apps.

Re: HDHR Android app bug
Is the Sony an Android/Google TV? Does it happen every time used, or do you clear the issue/popup by force close the hdhr app and restart it (in app settings)? Yes, Sony TV is an Android TV that runs Android TV OS 10. It happens every time I press the volume button on remote. May check your remote ...

Re: Android TV 12 Round App Icons
TBH, I don't like the new Google TV rounded icon look. Out of all my Android TV and Google TV boxes, only one running Google TV 11 got update to this new look. As for HDHR app icon, the one on my Android 14 phone looks right but the one on my Google TV looks like the screenshot posted above and does...

HDHR Android app bug
Recently, I noticed an annoying issue/bug that probably is introduced in recent app updates. Here is where this issue that annoys me and I consider it as a bug in this particular situation: * I run HDHR app on my Sony TV * My Sony TV is connected to a soundbar via ARC/eARC. TV is set to external AVR...

Re: Black screen with "Audio only", etc.
Video quality setting means HDHR app detected that your hardware decoder on the MeCool failed somehow and switched over to software decoder instead. It only means one thing: MeCool is not cool I personally will not trust this device to do anything right.

Re: Encryption
One device per TV type ATSC 3.0 boxes have a technical enforcement that prevents you from watching outside your home [mission critical DRM restriction]. Specifically they can only connect to the TV via HDMI and there is a limit as to how long the HDMI cable can be. We documented, implemented, and d...

Re: Encryption
Not so sure about that. I have my Android TV boxes that can playback CableCard encrypted channels for quite long time now while Fire devices can't.Once SD gets the android solution certified wouldn't using the fire tv stick be the same secure solution.

Re: Encryption
Yep, DC market is next to test that. From what I understand, the broadcaster will send out URLs for the shows in ATSC 3.0 signal. The tuner will extract that information out and connect to the URL to receive the actual content. Sounds interesting but I suspect it will be DRM protected to hell (since...

Re: Encryption
From what I read, there is a way for broadcasters to offer internet delivery of content in NextGen TV. It is mentioned as Broadband Channels, in the release note of the other box which they intent to release support soon (Feb 2024)

Re: Encryption
What are we missing? If you want to get DRM certification from A3SA, you need to implement everything they told you to implement. You don't get to pick and choose. Whether or not DRM is allowed in public airwaves, that is a separate political matter that only FCC can tackle when they feel like to h...

Re: Samsung 4K TV with Nvidia Shield blurry/stuttering on fast motion like sports
Most likely motion artifacts because most of the TV broadcasting are over compressed (either OTA or cable). So it is inevitable that these kinds of motion artifacts occur. The only way to compensate for this is to have a TV with good motion processing. TV boxes typically don't have that kind of proc...
