It can do mpeg-ts. How this person did it I don't know. I also know the box can play 1080p mkv files from one of my blu rays (avc) over dlna in the defalt mediaplayer app so I can't imagine bitrates are a problem.

That is great to hear that your box could play the mkv rip. My revue hasn't updated yet and the current version couldn't play my mkv rips. Hopefully it will be able to do so as your sony box can.

Mine always could. Apparently Sony's version was more vanilla then Logitech's so the default MediaPlayer could handle it.

OMG.. If we could get a HDhomerun DVR client to google TV 3.1, this whole market would BLOW UP!!

If you could get recording to a local USB stick or SMB NAS working to boot, I would freaking die!

Please please please help make this happen!!!

Progress

Any progress on getting Android/GTV working with the homerun? I see that the pieces were almost complete, but not quite put together yet. I just updated my revue to 3.1 and just ordered an hdhomerun prime 3 tuner device. I'm a developer with some android experience mostly end-user and willing to help out.

Sorry for the late reply. I am using a3rd party ffmpeg based decoder library.

EDIT: Logitech may have disabled mpeg2 decoding in revue, so would need a 3rd party decoder.

The link you posted is basically correct. Logitech pulled MPEG2 decoding from the shipping version of Honeycomb for the Revue due to licensing. The Sony Blu-ray player (NSZ-GT1) has support for more codecs as it has to license them for the disc playback.

Any progress to report on Android HDHomeRun app?

Postby milosz » Wed Mar 14, 2012 2:27 pm

I got the whole Sinderon thing put together and could watch streams from HD HomeRun tuners on my Galaxy 10.1 but could not change channels, and the whole Sinderon thing was kind of a creaky Rube goldberg way to do this.... Vlc on a server, etc etc- this or that piece would crash, it's just not the best way to go, although it DID work- if only you could change channels from the Android tablet!

I guess you could use a remote desktop to control the server to change channels- this is like using chopsticks to handle tweezers to pick up rice, when all I want is a *%&# spoon!

PLEASE someone make a native Android HD HomeRun client app!

Count me in as well. A native GoogleTV client will make me buy a HDHomeRun instantly.

I don't think an Android app is EVER going to be available

Postby milosz » Thu Jun 28, 2012 4:18 am

The issue is, Android can't play MPEG 2 video. The HD HomeRun passes on the video that it gets from the cable company, and this is ALL MPEG2 format. Since that's a format that the Android platform has NO CODECS for, we're all S.O.L. on this

What I heard is Google didn't want to pay the royalty fees for MPEG2, so there's no native support in Android for it.

There are video player apps that can play MPEG2 on Android, but as far as I know these apps can't connect to the Silicon Dust tuners. MoliPlayer and VPlayer are free Android apps that are supposed to be able to play MPEG2.

In your market, maybe, in my market the TV is h.264, so please don't over generalise
