yes bitemydust freecast like plex channels and roku, its an aggregator.bitemydust wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 4:40 amMy fear is that it's an aggregator. Which means ads!! Not sure I can deal with that for a service I'm paying for.

two thumbs up que2que2 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 10:12 am I'd never heard of Freecast until reading about it here and decided to install it for myself.
I certainly hope the exposure allows Silicondust to sell more of their tuners but IMHO, the Freecast app is step backwards from the Silicondust HDHomeRun app. Navigation is quirky and less responsive than HDHR app. For some reason they chose to present the end user with separate EPG for OTA and online streamed channels instead of single integrated guide. There are plenty of options for online free content, Pluto, Samsung TV, Amazon, etc so I see no purpose or compelling reason to use Freecast. The ability to integrate Netflix or other content into their app as an aggregator just isn't appealing. I guess their software might improve with time but I see nothing new here or advantageous over the native HDHomeRun app. Its a solution for a problem that doesn't really exist.

there are 2 ways to activate; the first is with a account through silicondust if subscribing to their cloud based DVR service, the other way is using an e-mail account, they will send you an e-mail with an activation code and you have to link your hdhomerun box, just plug in the seriel no. in the field provided. example: 22334aabrkkeller wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 6:25 am I posted about Freecast in one of my cord cutting groups and people seem interested just no one is sure how to get it on their HDHR as most are not really technical.
I can't help as my HDHR is not coming until tomorrow. So anyone know how to link this with the HDHR so the local channels also show?

and rkkeller oftentimes even by no fault of silicondust, codec applied in the update can be changed by the server that is installing the update and silicondust has no control over that, only to say that they are very strict when it come to useability.gtb wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 9:11 pmSiliconDust has been somewhat consistent in saying that they will deal with vendor official release versions only (whether Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc.) for any required app updates as the beta's are often so broken as that (my interpretation) as a small company they cannot continuously chase bugs in the beta's and change their code when the bugs are (as likely as not) to be fixed before release by the vendors. I also suspect that SiliconDust does test the betas (depending on the vendor they many not be allowed to admit that), and feed into the vendors feedback systems, but until those updates ship, it will not result in substantial engineering effort.

what a3sa could have done but chose not to, is hold a hot iron poke to the broadcasters, and stated "not until" decryption can be done by all gateway devices.nickk wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 7:23 pmThe HDHomeRun is Nextgen TV logo'd. DRM support is optional in ATSC 3.0.speedingcheetah wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 7:05 pm I fail to see how your devices are "Nextgen TV Certified" when they actually do not work at all for ATSC 3.0 since those stations are all DRM/Encrypted in most markets.
No video gateway products. As things stand today DRM can be implemented on TVs and set top boxes, not yet on gateway products. TV stations chose to turn on encryption knowing this. A3SA is working on it.speedingcheetah wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 7:05 pm Meanwhile, i see some other tuner boxes that already work fine with DRM stations.
Waiting on A3SA. We can't do anything more at this point until A3SA completes what they need to do.speedingcheetah wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 7:05 pm Hope your firmware update comes some time this year, as by "coming soon" posts by SD i see as far back as Jan of this year... 9 months ago now.
and affirm all gateway devices as short distance relay.
Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
What you are MISSING here, is that the A3SA group are the content PROVIDERS! For whatever reasons, they do NOT see this the same as providing content on the ATSC 1.0 system.

That page is "licensees" which means "companies signed up to use A3SA services." Like how if you go to McDonalds and buy a burger, that doesn't make you part of McDonalds, that makes you someone buying a product McDonalds sells.
The correct list is at the bottom of the page here: https://a3sa.com/
The founding members are shown as ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, Univision, and Pearl, which is a consortium of broadcasters. EDIT TO ADD: It's not lost on many of us that the five individually named companies are the major content providers, while all the broadcasters which aren't content providers in a major way, for the most part, are lumped together into one entity.
