Lag and tuners disappear

Postby Craggers » Wed May 01, 2013 12:15 pm

I purchased my HD homerun prime on Friday 4/26 and installed the newest firmware. I have a HTPC (my main pc) which is 8-core with a nvidia geforce gtx 660 ti with windows 7 os. I have a wired network setup with one xbox 360 extender.

I've installed everything and WMC works great when I tune 2 channels at once, but once I try to use 3 tuners at once, everything goes south. WMC will load indefinitely and the other channels will stop tuning. The HD HomeRun GUI also stops displaying the tuners. After 5 minutes, the tuners are found again and everything works until I try to use all 3 tuners at the same time.

Another problem is when I use my extender, it is unwatchable unless it is the only tuner being used and it is still iffy. If I watch a show on my PC at the same time, both devices will lag and become unwatchable.

Any help is appreciated.

Go into HDHR setup program and on the advance tab and enable send diagnostic to SD. Recreate the issue and open a Trouble ticket with SD and tell them when you ran the test.

Besides sending data and opening ticket as Mediaman suggested; everthing you mention suggests that there is a network issue. How and what type of network do you have? The basic suggestion is plugging everthing into a gigabit unmanaged switch and not into the router and make sure it's wired with Cat5e or better Cat6. You problems suggest either packet loss or traffic issues or a router that is packet snooping for your protection and the well being of the United States. That's the reason we don't want the tuner and computer and extender running on outlets on the router. Just one jumper from the gigabit switch to the router prevents that internal traffic from snooping. You should also look at the log on the Prime (open the web gui and on the first page click on status menu and on that page click on log which should show you the times of all the channel tunes along with any network issues, cableCARD start ups and so forth. I'd lean towards the network since you have an issue with the extender as well. Other causes can be Hard Drives since all the tv tunes are buffered or recorded so each tuner has its own buffer and if you have one tuner playing to the computer and xbox then there are two buffers so you can pause the xbox without stopping playback or live tv on the pc.

Just a few things to check in addition to sending data to SD.

and as a side thought to Johns basket list, what kind of cableCard are you using; Motorola, scientific atlantic [cisco] or NDS? If it is an NDS then two channels that are encrypted is all you can tune with that CC at one time [at least I do not think they have found a way around that, as it uses one of the tuners for a channel list rather than it residing in the CC like the other two].
