Am a little disappointed that there has to be a running computer in the middle to stream though.
I understand the transcoding issue and CPU requirements to do it.
Was hoping to be able to stream directly to an iPad 2, especially during a power outage since we are in hurricane and ice storm country.
My cable modem/router and the HDHR are on my big UPS with the iMac,
and the HDHR gives me a lot more functionality than a battery powered TV would.
It's not feasible to leave the iMac running on UPS but it will run the other devices for a very long time.
So.... after much research I found a solution but it's a little less than elegant.
Installed GoodPlayer app on the iPad since it appears able to stream just about anything.
Using hdhomerun_config the target for the tuner is set and voila it works.
In Linux:
- Code: Select all
hdhomerun_config homerun set /tuner1/target 192.168.0.124:5000
On GoodPlayer tap web icon and put in this address:
- Code: Select all
udp://@:5000
Streaming this way works quit well with very little choppiness even in HD and the audio is perfect.
Only trouble is it would be nice to not require the Linux box to initiate the stream and change channels.
Any thoughts on how to better implement this?
Thanks-Jake[/code]
