Flex 4k - my.hdhomerun.com page doesn't work

Post by dreed47 »

I have a Flex 4k model:HDFX-4K

I used to be able to go to my.hdhomerun.com to configure my device but that no longer works...all I see is a public support web page. How am I supposed to configure my device?

The use of my.hdhomerun.com to display devices has been gone for years (at least since October 2021 since such was removed, but issues started before that) as browsers no longer supported reaching out to (pulling information from) your device from a remote web page (a link to them would work though). Personally I think it would be nice to put the list of URLs there but not all the devices listed there may be on your network (for instance in some cases you might get every device ip in the neighborhood if your neighborhood happens to use a single public ip address for everyone). You can still get the list by going to my.hdhomerun.com/discover which will redirect to https://ipv4-api.hdhomerun.com/discover but modern devices (those more modern than prime) support ipv6 so to get such a list you may need to go to https://ipv6-api.hdhomerun.com/discover if the devices contacted SD via ipv6.

For some people the hdhomerun.local may not work (if more than one device can be a random device so one should use "deviceID".local replacing "deviceID" with your actual deviceID such as http://131b34b7.local/ (note some browsers may try to force https so best to specify http) and for some mdns doesn't work at all so I prefer by ip address.

Another way would be to use the setup utility in the full windows software package (not app).

Also the official HDHomeRun app on most platforms has most of the tools needed to "configure" the device (but you may need to restart the app right after to pull in some changes you may make, but not always).
