Resolved, Sort Of: DLNA HD bit rate seems low

Postby jdkrp » Fri Jan 18, 2013 5:15 pm

When I look at the Network Rate in the HDHR GUI, I see an average of about 4 Mbps for both SD and HD channels when using XMBC or VLC DLNA clients.

HD is mostly unwatchable, and I would guess it should be @ around 15Mbps like it is when using WMC or QuickTV. Is this a beta issue or is it a configuration issue on my end?

I have 3 WDTV Live units. I am currently watching 2 HD Channels and 1 SD Channel. Below is what my GUI is showing.

SD: 3-4 Mbps
HD: 12-13 Mbps

The two HD Channels are connected via GB Ethernet (tested at 700 Mbps). The SD is connected via MoCa (tested at 100 Mbps). Was getting a lot of pixilation when trying to play HD on the MoCa. But with the speeds above not sure why my MoCa is having problems. Will test again.

Watching another HD Channel getting more pixilation at times. Checked and it is streaming at 17-18 Mbps.

Part of my network is on Moca too, but I get only 5Mbps HD streams on the non Moca side as well. I have plenty of bandwidth and non DLNA streams work fine at 15Mbps and over.

Do you have VLC installed to compare results?

D21mike-

You are right, the problem is on the Moca side. I was looking at the wrong connection for my PC. It doesn't make sense though, but maybe the Moca version on the FIOS router doesn't work well with DLNA.?

I hooked directly from my laptop to the HDHR Prime @ 1Gbps and DLNA works fine in HD. I then tried a wired connection on the 100Mbps non-moca side and it works there as well.

HD DLNA seems unusable using N Wifi - at least with the non-mimo type on my FIOS router.

Strange how the same bit rates work fine over Wifi and and Moca in non-DLNA mode.
