Pixelation and stuttering on XMBC/OpenElec

Postby nivanov » Fri Jan 18, 2013 1:15 pm

I've installed the new beta firmware. I can see all the channels and tune to them. However, most HD channels play with stutter and pixelate heavily. I'm running OpenElec 3.0 RC1 (XBMC RC3) on Zotac Nano AD10 (AMD E350) over a gigabit network.

Ditto......I have a 1 gig home network and using frodo RC 3 and cant watch anything due to massive delays/studdering.

I am going to be cautiously optimistic that someone is going to come up with some new apps or versions for xbmc that will allow some more functionality.

Functionality, perhaps. Speed? I wouldn't hold our breath for that one. The ability to process an HD stream is most often a horsepower issue, and there's not much one can do about that. The only way you get lucky is if someone has a piece of software that can bridge the gap between the stream and getting it processed under the hardware accelerator.

I would be curious if the hardware acceleration in the Tegra 3 devices works on these streams, because that would be my thought on the best way to play HDHR streams without issues...

I really don't think it's an issue of horsepower. The tv tuner is not doing any transcoding - it just passes the mpeg2 stream untouched. My htpc plays the stream very smoothly for about 5-20 seconds before it starts getting all blocky.
