WDTV Live working

Postby d21mike » Fri Jan 18, 2013 11:03 am

I am unable to get this working. I can see all of the channels like I can with my Samsung TV but when I select a channel it just spins like it is buffering but never starts showing the picture.

Working now after reboot. Read posts below. Streaming all 3 tuners at the same time to 3 WDTV Live boxes.

I initially got the same results, but powered off WDTV and then it almost worked.
I got all the channels, and when I selected one, I eventually got the picture and sound, but periodically (5 mins?) I get pixellation, which may clear up, and sound loss that would not. Press STOP on WDTV, reselect channel, and everything works for another few minutes.

WDTV firmware 1.06.43_V on gigabit connection.

I seem to be able to do the Cable Channels on my WDTV Live Plus with WDLXTV. I used my 802.11n USB adapter and it was streaming just fine on an SD channel.

I got it working as well by doing a reboot. However, I have to wait about 20-30 seconds to start playing. Now I see the channel on the bottom right away which I did not before. Also, I have 3 of them all running latest firmware 1.12.14. 2 are on GB ethernet and 1 is on a MoCa Connection. I tested these outlets before and the 2 GB run about 700mbps and the MoCa runs at about 100mbps. Right now I have the 2 GB Units watching HD Channels (617,618 without problems). When I tried one of those on the MoCa it was heavy pixilated. I am now watching SD (Channel 2) without problems on the MoCa. So all three tuners are busy streaming to 3 TV's. I really hope WD puts our a native application (like the Hauppauge App) with a better interface. Like the ability to simply change a channel by entering the channel# and other options. Very promising at this point. My goal is to get rid of most/all of my cable boxes and just use HDHomeRun CableCard Tuners. Boxes like the WDTV Live are required for this to happen.

Regarding the 20-30 second wait. This happens as well when playing MPEG2 Files as well. Do you know of a setting to reduce this. I am thinking it is trying to buffer the stream but not sure.

Are you able to watch any protected (copy once) content? We need to know what devices support DTCP-IP.

No. The only channel I can not see is HBO and Cinemax on FIOS. I assume they are "copy once".

Reboot, working pretty well. That 20-30 sec delay is very annoying though. The ps3 starts playing MUCH faster.

The WDTV Live Hub seems to work, but it seems to have an issue keeping up with HD video. There is about a 30 second delay before it starts playing. Going out of the channel and back in seemed to help a bit. The PS3 seems to work much better.

WD TV Live firmware 1.13.18 is out.

So after flashing and cold rebooting I get no sound now on any channels. This is with digital passthrough over hdmi. If I switch the wd tv live to stero sound works fine. So basically we lost ac3 support. Recordings from prime though still work fine. The sound issue is only with watching live tv.

On the upside the pause is down to around 12 sec.

UPDATE: It seems certain channels I get no sound even set to stereo. I might have to do a factory reset on the wdtv live to see if that helps.

UPDATE 2: Factory reset didn't help.

Interesting, same sound issue with Patriot Box Office while HD picture is great. Most stations no sound, some in-and-out and some at 98%. My LG TV also has sketchy (out of sync) sound but usually corrects after 5-10 seconds and then it is ok. Perhaps it is at the Prime end.

Forgive my igorance. Just installed HDHomerun Prime and it is working. Go to WD Live TV hub and see where i can see the tuners in network media for videos, but it doesn't work if you select it.

How did you connect and see channels and select? Yes, I looked through the forums.....I didn't see it listed.

Running newest firmware as of today.

Do not see in live tv (hauppage, skitter, slingbox). Only see in network shares of video and says it is not a valid share.

Running HD Homerun Prime beta 1 (011713)
Thank you,

I upgraded my WDTV Live Hub. I think I would prefer to have sound over the slightly quicker tuning time. Since there was sound before the upgrade, hopefully WD can restore the sound.

Thank you,

Go to Video or maybe Files and change source to the new HDHomeRun Live. I hope they come out with a native App in the future for the Live TV Section.

Thanks! Now with the beta firmware for the HDHomerun...I am up to the same as all of you....picture but no sound. I'll second the "common WD....Hauppage is not all that....been there done that...are good, but not great"

Re: WDTV Live working - NOT

Postby YottaByte » Mon Jan 28, 2013 10:17 pm

Same problem: Picture but no sound. SD HomeRunPrime with 20130125beta1 firmware. WDTVLive_SMP with latest v1.13.18 firmware.
Neither WDTVLive with latest 1.06.43_V firmware nor WDTVLive_Plus with latest firmware v1.06.42_B will play at all: "Unable to play the selected file. Please see the User Manual for a list of supported file formats."

UPDATE: Rolled back WDTV Live SMB Firmware from v1.13.18 to v1.12.14. Now getting sound on all channels, but some stuttering/breakup.

UPDATE2: WDTVLive_Plus with latest firmware v1.06.42_B does work, but getting same intermittent stuttering/breakup as WDTVLive SMB with v1.12.14 Firmware.

UPDATE3: No Cinemax, HBO, or Showtime channels. Stuttering/breakup occurs very minimally. Switching channels clears up the stuttering/breakup.
