Devices cannot see all the channels in playlist - TeddyR

Postby TeddyR » Fri Jan 18, 2013 9:33 am

Posting here since I do not believe it is a PS3 issue but an issue with the Prime.

Devices cannot see all the channels (PS3, Windows Media Player, Sony Blu Ray player). This is not a premium channel issue since some of the channels are the locals in HD coming in via the cablecard channel assignment.

Beta registrtion went ok. On the PS3 the DTCP-IP successfully enabled.
On the device webpage I did the "Detect Channels".

"Subscribed Channels" does NOT show all the channels (the missing channels are the ones with the issue)

"Basic Channels" does NOT show all the channels (the missing channels are the ones with the issue)

"All channels" shows all the channels, including the ones missing from the playlist.

An example of a non working channel: 780 HBOHD
An example of a working channel: 500 HBOSD, 752 TNTHD, 695 Disney XD HD

Yes. I did select the correct folder on the PS3 for protected content.

Yes. I did power cycle both the prime and the PS3

BTW HBOHD and all the other missing channels work fine in WMC.

Diags enabled, devices: 13201A41 and 132019EB

Just did another detect channels as well.

Cable Co: Charter in Glendale, CA
Cablecard type: Cisco
SDV TA: STA1520

EDIT 1: BTW, the channel lists behave the same way with older firmware so this is probably not an issue newly introduced in the 20130117 beta. Only difference is that it did not seem to visibly affect functionality at that time (with WMC or the elgato HDHomerun app)

EDIT 2: PS: It is also not a matter of the first X channels missing. Example, the "Music" channels in the 900 range show up. There are some channels missing in the 300 and 500 ranges, yet there are also channels that correctly show up in the 700 range. The channels misssing/avail are a mixture of protected and non protected channels that also work in media center.

At this point I have tried the channel detection several times (selecting the different channel types and then the scan option), restarted all relevant devices in multiple combinations. Still same result on ALL the playback devices.. Added to the the list of tested items that also show the behaviour are WMP, VLC (windows and Linux), XBMC (Windows and Linux). WDTV Live.

mborland wrote:Well ALL devices will show this. It's the channel list they are grabbing from the GUI. Mine go up to channel 661, then nothing until 900, then all the channels after that. The all channel list shows all the channels, just the basic and subscribed are missing ones. The Homerun setup program correctly shows the channels, pared down by me. So somehow the GUI (DLNA) is doing things separate from the hardware listings. :?

Yup. My point was that it is not the dlna client on the devices that is filtering or trimming the channel list down. It happens with ALL devices, not just dtcp-enabled ones and on many channels, not only HD, since it also happens with SD and channels with no subscription limitations.

Also it seems to happen quite a bit on Charter, but there are others on different cablecos that have this issue as well.

It is possible that it is happening with many others that are not noticing the issue yet since it mimics the issue where the first X channels dont get listed or the reboot of device required to refresh the channel list issues.

Since it does not seem to affect WMC, the prime on many cablecos may have the problem but only someone using the dlna feature would have noticed it.

Hopefully SD sees this thread and can recreate the issue internally so that it can be fixed soon.

Hi,

1) Run HDHomeRun Setup and enable "send diagnostic information" on the Advanced tab.

2) Run a new channel scan in HDHomeRun Setup.

3) Run HDHomeRun Config GUI and go to the device webpage, status page... check the status reports activation success.

4) Go to the channel lineup webpage... check subscribed vs all and make pick two channels that are missing from subscribed that you think you should be receiving.

5) Run WMC and give into Live TV mode. Tune one of the problem channels.
Important - stay watching this channel for 5 minutes.

6) Change to the second problem channel. Again stay on this channel for 5 minutes.

The reply back with the device ID of the HDHomeRun unit you ran the test on, two channel numbers you used for testing, the date+time you ran the scan, and the time you started watching in WMC... I will check the diagnostic logs.

Problem confirmed... your cable provider is doing something we didn't expect.

I have filed a P1 bug report internally.

Just confirming that 20130121beta1 does not have the fix in it yet. (probably too early for it to have been put into it, and to validate that the 10/20/100 fix did not help with this issue)...

Who's your provider Teddy R? I think I'm having similar issue on Verizon Fios.

Right, missed that. I can't understand my channel issue, it's not carrier related as this thread led me to believe. I'll post elsewhere. Thanks.

Although several of the users that have the issue are on Charter, I personally do not believe that it is limited to just Charter, but very well may affect other providers that may be "doing something unexpected". Currently the Charter users have different cablecard types. I am also aware of at least one other person on Time Warner with the same issue.

Check to see if your symptoms are the same (the missing channels are in the middle of the ranges of channels availible to you, and that the "all channels" list shows them but the "subscribed" does not, assuming of course that you are supposed to recieve the missing channels and that they DO work in WMC.

 Even lovelier. Installed the latest Beta, now even less channels detected. 169vs198. What I don't understand is that supposedly this is something the cable provider is doing "unexpectedly". But with the previous non-beta software, it was picked up fine. Just who is doing things "unexpectedly"?

The previous non-beta did not support detecting subscribed channels... it reported the entire channel list, including channels you could not receive.

The scan for subscribed channels is a new feature.

We have identified the problem and are QA testing the fix.

I am having a similar problem on the Optimum network. the GUI sees all channels while the "subscribed" channel list only picks up 66 of the 177 channels I am supposed to be receiving (including both sd and hd)
