3D?

Postby nswint » Thu Jan 17, 2013 11:03 pm

Comcast recently launched ESPN 3D in my area. I was able to view the channel but it was split in 2 windows with no 3D effect. Is 3D supported over DLNA? Is the HDHR3-CC capable of rendering the stream without transcoding from Comcast?

Sounds normal. If your getting side by side windows, your TV or monitor should have the ability to combine them into a 3D image. On my LG I have a menu to select the 3D format of the source material, in the above case I select side by side then can use my 3d glasses to view the movie.

Thanks. Its been so long since I've touched the 3d settings on my TV. ESPN 3D is top/bottom and hdnet is side by side. Usually it's able to figure it out on automatic. Comcast must be providing some additional metadata for their receivers to force the 3d format per channel.

I'm watching the BCS National Championship in 3D on my ps3. The refs are standing in my living room :)

Yes, there is EDID info sent from the cable box so the TV knows the 3D format. RealD owns the patent on these frame compatible 3D formats, so anyone who wants to auto detect needs to pay for a license. Some TVs can autodetect by analyzing the signal, but that varies model to model.
