Hi,
First, apologies for the cross post if that is frowned upon, but I thought this was actually better placed in the Development Forum.
I'd like to add my voice (there must be many others) to those that would love to see a DVB-S or DVB-S2 version of an HDHomeRun.
I am currently using Windows Vista Media Centre, but, I am increasingly underwhelmed by Microsoft and their third party developer's (D-Link, Netgear) support for extenders. A DVB-S(2) HDHomeRun would open the door I believe for a really slick MAC based solution using MAC Minis as Extenders (clients) to the HomeRun.
The home run seems to be unique in that I could position several in my loft and then not have to worry any more about how to get antenna cables to where I need TV services.
Please please please, bring on the DVB versions of the HDHomeRun!
As the previous poster mentioned, with the Go_Live of Freesat in the UK on 9th May 2008, there is a new market opening up for such a device.
Thanks in advance, waiting patiently! |

I read that Microsoft will soon support DVB-S & S2 cards in Vista Media Centre (Already working in as part of the Vista MC Beta update that is due soon), this makes an even more compelling case for a Satellite version of this fabulously convenient looking device.
I can tell you now. When there is finally a DVB-S2 version of HDHR I'll be buying 3 of them.
Please please please, tell me you're working on it! |

A DVB-S2 version (that includes DVB-S compatibility) would be a welcome addition, particularly by the FTA (free-to-air) satellite community. SchedulesDirect might even be able to carry channel listings for FTA ... some discussion has started:

Just wanted to add a "me too" to this old thread. If you made a DVB-S/S2 version then I'd purchase one for sure. If this isn't technically possible then would be good to know so we can stop asking. |

| This would be incredibly useful! DVB-T here in Britain can get very boring at times, so the ability to have a DVB-T HomeRunHD and a DVB-S2 to pick up FreeSat or Sky (please include a CI!) would make tv what it should be! |

| Nice to see the dust being blown off this old thread. Shame there isn't a response which would seriously make me think twice before purchasing. I use Hauppauge tuners currently & their forum support is first rate & posts always receive a reply even if it's just to say they can't comment. |

Hi,
We understand that there is interest in the product and it is being discussed internally.

| Thanks for the response, that is excellent news. With Freesat already carrying HD services I'm sure you'd have customers... |

It is great to hear that SiliconDust are considering an option for DVB-S(2). I know I would be towards the front of the queue to buy 1 or maybe even 2. I am really enjoying using my HDHomeRun and has been a great replacement for my internal tuners.
One more thing I think that should also be considered (if it is not already being discussed) is DVB-T2 (Freeview HD in the UK) as this will probably give a greater access to HD content when it is launched later this year / early next year depending where you are in the UK. |

Like LongView, I would also like to add a massive Me Too to this. I don't have the current model, because Freeview reception in my house is rubbish due to a badly positioned ariel. Rather than get Mr Ladders round to reposition it, I want to move to Freesat with the potential for FTA HD transmissions. But then, I'd love to - just as solomalee described - put a few in my loft for the three media PCs I have on my home network. That would be excellent! My brother wants to do the same. So that's an order of six already. That's got to cover the R&D cost already!
Seriously, I think that already, this product will change the way many people structure future home entertainment networks. Had I known about it before I bought my DVB-T Hauppauge cards, it would have been a no-brainer. Fully ready to correct that 'mistake' with DVB-S versions of the Homerun..... |

Nice to see more and more people adding their support to this thread.

Yeah same here. I even purchased two Nova-T-500's (one for our desktop & one for the HTPC) but had I known about the HDHR I'd have purchased that instead. |

Hi!
Signed up just for this thread... I can't really add anything to what the others have said, but I'd love to let you guys know if you get a Freesat model - well, another couple of orders are safe! |

Here here - S2 please! high definition FTA channels (esp. with Freesat gaining some momentum) would be exceptionally useful.
Of course the ability to put a CAM and cards in there too would be very useful. It'll always be a hack but Sky - using a legitimate card - would be great on my computer as I have a 24" iMac and an ancient 15" 4:3 TV...
[edit] Ha! I've posted here already, and there was me thinking "These guys have got the right idea!" oh well, I guess it shows how much I'm waiting for this! |

Hi all,
Nice to see a few more people interested in the ideaware... but 17 months on...still waiting for the HDHR DVB-S2...
Surely now with Windows 7's built in support for Satellite TV services this product has to be close...please!
I just bought two Elgato EyeTV SAT USB boxes, but sadly, no Win 7 drivers yet...as soon as I have those drivers those puppies will be on a long USB in my attic...or will we see a HDHR with Satellite first?

I may choose to get a dish someday and if I do the hdhomerun-S2 would be the best option by far. However I am concerned about the bit-rate used. I understand that the more channels per transport the less bandwidth per channel. Does anyone know how good it is?
Just my three cents... |
